Tarrifa Table, 2010
Tarrifa Table is a tea caddy type of side table made of paper and wood. It draws reference to traditional papier maché techniques popularised during the 18th and 19th centuries in both form and process. These original techniques were worked to a level of industrial perfection, however this contemporary piece enjoys a less formal and rough finish similar to that of paper pulp packaging. The papier maché industry fell victim to the introduction and popularisation of plastics. As a designer I am interested in the idea that paper products offer a natural and tactile experience that plastics lack.
Light Bookshelf, 2010
The Light Bookshelf reduces the idea of a bookshelf to its minimum. By challenging the archetypal norm and orienting the books at 30 degrees to the wall, the shelf depth is greatly reduced. As books are added to the shelf, the structure plays a less evident role leaving the book covers themselves to take center stage.
